Convention Cosplay

So in New Zealand, we don't have many conventions for nerds like myself. The one main one we have is Armageddon in my city, Auckland. I went for the first time last year and absolutely fell in love, it was so much fun. There were stands for just about every interest you could think of, panels with the coolest people, loads of fun stuff to do and the opportunity to hang out with your friends in the best environment. My only regret last year was my costume. It was so boring!! This year, I'm going all out and wearing a different costume for every day I'm going and I'm so excited.

Here's the list of who I'm dressing up as:

Saturday: The Log Lady (Twin Peaks)

The Log Lady holds a special place in my heart as one of my favourite Twin Peaks characters. She's convinced that her dead husbands soul is trapped in a log and can talk to her. She's also scarily right about everything that happens. My other favourites are Audrey Horne and Dale Cooper, but they just aren't as recognizable as Margaret Lanterman. Plus, I deeply identify with her log.

Sunday: Bellatrix Lestrange (Harry Potter)

Sunday is the day I'm meeting the actor who plays my favourite Harry Potter character Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton), and so naturally I have to dress up as a character from the franchise myself. I wanted to go as someone from my own house (Slytherin) but Pansy Parkinson and Millicent Bullstrode seemed too mundane. The obvious choice was Bellatrix and I'm so so excited.

Monday: Steampunk (goth subculture)

I couldn't figure out what to go as on my third and final day of Armageddon but I was thinking about costumes I've always wanted to wear and steampunk came to mind instantly. I've always wanted to wear steampunk fashion and look into the goth subcultures, but I'm too afraid to draw that much attention to myself. I figure that Armageddon is the perfect place to wear what I want, as everyone else is wearing costumes! For those who don't know, steampunk mixes Victorian fashion with science fiction elements and it's super cool.
